Reverse cultured from a Winogradsky column made after seeding with material from a sulfur reactor.

Fun Fact: Green sulfur bacteria mats have been observed on coral colonies in the wild. Scientific community speculation - GSB feeds off carbon from the coral and reduce sulfide while feeding the coral with usable nutrients

This bacteria is chosen to introduce natural ecosystem flows to a controlled tank reef environment, especially those stalling for changes (Old Tank Syndrome). GSB is anaerobic and intended to process sulfide in order to fix CO2 and reduce Nitrogen as a byproduct. Capable of performing low level photosynthesis in less than ideal lighting.

Scientific hypothesis: GSB partially recreates the reef crest and fore-reef systems (think rocky slopes fore-reef, seaweed forest reef crest), both zones shielding the coral reefs to filter the water before entering the reef. This bacteria plays a significant role in preventing sulfur from entering the reef, and processes harmful nutrients to become beneficial for coral consumption.

Best used to seed anaerobic zones and clear existing sulfide from aquaria. Can temporarily boost a tank’s health if unable to establish itself.
